Introduction

The Upper Mustang Trek allows you to experience the hidden world of the old Buddhist kingdom of Mustang. Also known as Lo, this remote trans-Himalayan mountain area borders Tibet and Nepal and has a unique Tibetan feel to it.  The different arid landscape of high cliffs and rocks of unusual formations and colors, hidden caves, artistic monasteries, spectacular mountains are the main attraction of this trek. The adventure walk to Upper Mustang will reward your hard work with great views and memorable moments to spend your time in such a remote place. On the way to Upper Mustang, you'll come across numerous ancient Gompas, prayer flags and monasteries that display the influence of Tibetan Buddhist culture in this place. Spectacular views of mountains including Annapurna I (8,091m/26,545 ft), Dhaulagiri I (8,167m/26,795 ft), , Nilgiri (7,061m/23,160 ft) & Tukuche peak (6,920m/22,698 ft) are visible clearly along the trek. If you're looking forward to experience Tibetan culture, high mountains then this trek is the perfect one for you.

We start our Upper Mustang adventure with a drive to Pokhara and fly to Jomsom. Passing through a narrow slice between giant mountains, Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I, the trail heads towards north along the Kaligandaki Gorge, Deepest gorge in the world. For the next few days, passing through several refreshing points: Geiling, Tsarang finally takes us to historical Lo Manthang. The historical villages and monasteries such as Namgyal Gompa, the village of Thinkar, and Naifuk are worth visiting while you're in Lo Manthang. Upper Mustang goes and returns via the same route which is a common and easy route.

Day 1:    Arrival at Kathmandu , alt. 1300m.
Day 2:    Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (alt.740m.), 6 to 7 hours.
Day 3:    Flight from Pokhara to Jomsom ( 30 minutes , alt.2700m.),and trek to Kagbeni (,alt.2700m.) 4 hours.
Day 4:    Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (alt. 3000m.), 4 to 5 hours.
Day 5:    Trek from Chele to Geling ( alt. 3500m.) 6 to 7 hours.
Day 6:    Trek from Geling to Tsarang (alt. 3810m.), 6 to 7 hours.)
Day 7:    Trek from Tsarang to Lo Manthang (alt. 3800m.) 4 hours.
Day 8:    full day explore the Lo - Manthang valley.

Day 10:    Trek from Lo Manthang to Ghami (alt. 3400m.) 4 to 5 hours.
Day 11:    Trek from Ghami to Samar (alt. 3330m.) 5 to 6 hours.

Day 13:    Trek to Jomsom (alt. 2780m.), 4 hours.
Day 14:    Flight to Pokhara (alt. 800m.), 30 minutes
Day 15:    Fly/Drive to Kathmandu, (alt.1300m), drive to 7 hours & by air 35 minutes.
Day 1:    Arrival at Kathmandu , alt. 1300m.

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, one of our airport representatives receives you and transfers you to the hotel. You will be given a short briefing about the trek and spend overnight at the hotel.


Day 2:    Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (alt.740m.), 6 to 7 hours.

After early morning breakfast in the hotel, we head towards Pokhara with 6-7 hours of drive. After arriving at Pokhara, you get to see the spectacular mountain views including Fishtail and Dhaulagiri, etc. Overnight in Pokhara. 


Day 3:    Flight from Pokhara to Jomsom ( 30 minutes , alt.2700m.),and trek to Kagbeni (,alt.2700m.) 4 hours.

We fly to Jomson from Pokhara after early morning breakfast in the hotel. After arriving at the airport, we'll have lunch at lodge and trek to Kagbeni. You can also taste local apple product which is very famous in this area. Overnight at Kagbeni. 


Day 4:    Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (alt. 3000m.), 4 to 5 hours.

Early morning trek from Kagbeni takes us to Chele which goes along the Kali Gandaki valley and climb steeply up a rocky gully to Chele. On the way, one can have an amazing view of Mt. Nilgiri glowing orange from the sunrays. Overnight in Chele.


Day 5:    Trek from Chele to Geling ( alt. 3500m.) 6 to 7 hours.

Today we walk on a treeless, waterless terrain, along the side of a spectacular steep canyon to reach Geling. Overnight at a guesthouse.


Day 6:    Trek from Geling to Tsarang (alt. 3810m.), 6 to 7 hours.)

The trek goes steadily up to the spectacular pass of NYI La and goes downhill the blue, gray and red cliffs. We cross the steel bridge of the Tangmar and it takes us to the beautiful village of Tsarang for an overnight stay.


Day 7:    Trek from Tsarang to Lo Manthang (alt. 3800m.) 4 hours.

The trek goes steadily up until Lo-Gekar where we'll visit Lo-Gekar Gompa which is older than Samye Gompa in Tibet. It is the best place to learn about Tibetan culture. While you're in the Lo Manthang, you'll get to know many things about them. Overnight stay.


Day 8:    full day explore the Lo - Manthang valley.

This is the exploration day at Lo Manthang Valley. You can explore the valley, know about the Tibetan culture, tradition, and lifestyle of local people. There are historical monasteries around the valley. Spend overnight in Lo Manthang Valley.


Day 9:    Explore the Lo Manthang valley

One more day at Lo Manthang Valley allows us to explore even smaller detail of the Lo Manthang valley, spectacular mountains, neighboring villages and many things. Overnight at lodge.


Day 10:    Trek from Lo Manthang to Ghami (alt. 3400m.) 4 to 5 hours.

After a few days at Lo Manthang, we head towards Ghami. We'll pass through several teahouses, chortens and local villages of Tibetan styles to reach Ghami. You'll get to learn about Tibetan culture here as well. Overnight stay. 


Day 11:    Trek from Ghami to Samar (alt. 3330m.) 5 to 6 hours.

Early morning walk from Ghami through villages and fields, we reach Samar. Enjoying amazing mountain views, and Tibetan culture, we spend overnight there.


Day 12:    Trek Samar to Kagbeni (alt. 2715m.) 4 to 5 hours.

After breakfast, we continue our trek to Kagbeni from Samar. Enjoying the spectacular panorama of Kaligandaki valley and Kagbeni village we reach Kagbeni for an overnight stay.


Day 13:    Trek to Jomsom (alt. 2780m.), 4 hours.

It is one of the main highlights of this trek as we trek to Jomsom, we can have a spectacular view of mountains, taste local apple and apple products and get close to local people. Overnight at Jomsom.


Day 14:    Flight to Pokhara (alt. 800m.), 30 minutes

A scenic flight from Jomsom takes us to Pokhara. You can spend spare time by strolling around the lakeside, visit temples, and boating in Fewa Lake. At night you can spend your quality time with friends, enjoy the pub and bars and taste Nepali food. Overnight at Pokhara.


Day 15:    Fly/Drive to Kathmandu, (alt.1300m), drive to 7 hours & by air 35 minutes.

Finally, we fly to Kathmandu from Pokhara which is the last point of our trek.
