Introduction

Overland Upper Mustang Trek is the most admired trek among travelers for being the best trek itinerary to witness the Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditions which takes you to the isolated kingdom of Lo-Manthang. Lo Manthang is the last forbidden Kingdom between Annapurna I and Dhaulagiri I which is like barren land and a rain shadow area of Nepal in the Annapurna region. Not only Tibetan Culture but Mustang is also called the land of caves and historical monasteries as well. This trek is full of adventure where we will cross several wooden bridges, the strong Himalayan river Kaligandaki, and some famous passes over 4000 meters where you can capture every priceless moment with your camera. If you are looking forward to experiencing thrilling natural adventure across arid landscapes, deep gorges, barren ridges, deep canyons,  spectacular mountains, and Tibetan culture, then the trek is a perfect fit for you.

The Overland Upper Mustang tour commences from Kathmandu and takes you to Pokhara. After arriving in Pokhara, you can explore the beauty of Pokhara city. After witnessing natural landmarks in Pokhara we fly towards Jomsom. Jomsom is the best place to enjoy local Apple products.  Then we reach the lower part of the Mustang where you get to visit local monasteries and then head out to Ghami which is the final stop before reaching Upper Mustang. Then we head towards Lo-Manthang and admire the beauty around that is perched on a cliff. Then we return via the same route to end our trek.

Trek Highlights

  • Local Tibetan culture and tradition
  • Mountains including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri

Accommodations during the Overland Upper Mustang Trek are at teahouses which are necessarily teahouses but where you'll feel a home and get a chance to explore Nepali culture and tradition. All the teahouses are run by locals and provide all the basic facilities including a hot shower at a low extra charge. You'll find the room simple and comfortable usually with two beds a mattress blanket and pillows. Some will have an en-suite bathroom but most have shared bathrooms with the squat toilet in mountain areas. During your stay in Pokhara and Kathmandu, accommodation is more luxurious.
