Introduction

Perched at an elevation of 6,135m, Sherpani Col Pass is the most challenging pass trek through the tranquil and less-traveled route to the Makalu Trekking Region.  It is an ideal trekking destination for those who seek the adventurous, challenging, and different trekking route in the tranquil and untouched Himalayan region. Mt. Makalu, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Amadablam, Mt Everest (8848m.), Mt. Lhotse 8416m, Mt. Nuptse, Baruntse and Kanchenjunga, etc. This trekking region is protected by Makalu Barun National Park where visitors can explore the varieties of flora and fauna and the culture of the ethnic people. This trek is one of the popular off-the-beaten-trail treks which touches both sides of the famous trek Everest and Makalu. Sherpani Col Pass is difficult to pass trek, so you must have previous trekking experience before you go for this trek. We have expert trekkers and climbers who will train you on how to use fixed rope, hummer, safety, ice-shock, karma plum, and other climbing techniques. The months of  September to Nov and March to June are the best season for this adventure.

We start the Sherpani Col Pass Trek with an exciting flight to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu. The trail ascents from Khandbari and takes us through several villages to reach Khongma Pass. After the Makalu Base Camp, we have the most challenging part of the trek remaining.  We cross 3 difficult passes which are Sherpani Col (6135m), West Col (6143m) and Amphu Laptsha Pass (5845m) respectively. Then we descend down to Chukkung and follow a bit easier trail than then previous one and pass through Tengboche, Namche Bazaar towards Lukla. We fly to Kathmandu from Lukla which is the last point of this adventure.

Trek Highlights

  • Three challenging Passes: Sherpani Col (6135m), West Col (6143m) and Amphu Laptsha Pass (5845m)

Food

The food in the teahouse will be basic, simple local and organic food that is made from locally produced products. You can choose your food preferences from the food menu available at the teahouse or camp. You can enjoy a variety of food items during your stay in Kathmandu. The food items in the trek include ethnic cuisines foods as well as western-style meals such as Sherpa stew, fresh vegetable items, handmade bread items, rare noodles, different soups, spaghetti, pizza, rice items, eggs, potatoes items, apple pie, Dal Bhat, etc. We recommend you have black tea, lemon tea, hot chocolates, ginger tea, and garlic soup to stay away from the high-elevation problem. In high-elevation, there won't be any teahouse to provide you with food, so we'll provide you with an experienced kitchen crew who'll prepare the best and most delicious food for you.

Accommodation

In lower altitudes, guesthouses or teahouses are available and run by local people who offer standard comfort and services. Most rooms have twin beds, blankets, pillows with showers available, and bathroom on a sharing basis, and other basic facilities. As you trek to the higher altitudes, you will find that most of the time your accommodation will include tea houses and local lodges managed by the residents and camps.  One thing, you need to keep in mind is that single rooms might not be available easily in higher altitudes as in Kathmandu Valley or lower elevations. We'll also stay in camps/tents for a few days.
