Introduction
The Jomsom to Juphal will take you to the most isolated and remote parts of the Mid-West region of Nepal. It is a long and challenging trek but it takes you to the most beautiful and untouched areas of Nepal. This trek comes across more than eleven mountain passes, in which seven of them are elevated over 5,000m. People in the region practice Buddhist religion, the Bon Po, so this trek provides you an excellent opportunity to be part of the most unique and rare cultural practiced in the world. The route consists of the desert-like landscape, barren ridges, deep canyons, eroded cliffs, and moraine valleys. Dolpo is home to endangered species of animals such as Blue Sheep, Snow Leopard and medicinal herbs as Silvery Fil, so you can explore Shey Phoksundo National Park, encounter rich wildlife during this trek. The trails connect remote villages, mountains and high passes are some of the most culturally interesting and spectacular routes during this trek.
We kick off our trek from Juphal, after thrilling flight over the snow-covered mountains and green hills from Nepalgunj. The route goes through several ups and downs and high passes. You can spot different species of wild animals like blue sheep, Himalayan Black bear, leopards, wolves and the snow leopards. . After walking through several villages for days, we finally visit the main highlights of this trek, Kang La, historical Shey Gompa, beautiful Shey Phoksundo Lake, cross Niwar Pass (5130 meters) and Sangda La (5300 meters). From here we will trek down to Juphal where we catch our flight back to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.

Food
During Jomsom to Juphal Trek, you'll get the best dishes available at the teahouse or lodge including popular Nepali Bhat, Pasta, Cereals, Eggs, Noodles, Potatoes, Vegetables, Fried rice, Soup, etc and other Nepali food, Chinese Food, American food, Indian food, Continental food, etc. We recommend you to have lemon tea, hot lemon, garlic soup, green tea, ginger tea, etc to stay away from high-altitude problems. In climbing days, our team will provide you the food of your choice.
Accommodation
Accommodations during the Jomsom to Juphal Trek are at teahouses which are necessarily teahouses but where you'll feel like a home and get a chance to explore Nepali culture and tradition. All the teahouses are run by locals and provide all the basic facilities including a hot shower at a low extra charge. You'll find all the room simple and comfortable usually with two beds with a mattress blanket and pillows. Some will have an en-suit bathroom but most have shared bathrooms with the squat toilet in mountain areas. We'll have to stay a few days at camp during this trek. During your days in Kathmandu, you'll stay in 3-star hotels with breakfast service or there will be numerous restaurants and cafes in the town for lunch and dinner.
Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, our airport representatives will meet you and transfer you to the hotel in Thamel. After the hotel check-in process, you can rest and we'll schedule a short meeting at the office with our trekking guide in the afternoon to give you all the information regarding the adventure. Today, we'll go to the exploration of culturally rich Kathmandu valley and its heritage in guided sightseeing. The main attraction of today's itinerary will be the ancient Buddhist stupa of Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple, one of the largest stupas in the world, Boudhanath, sacred Hindu temple Pashupatinath and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square. Early in the morning, our guide will come and pick you up at your Hotel in Thamel and drive to the Domestic airport for your flight to Nepalgunj. From the flight, you can experience the aerial view of the beautiful landscape with lush valleys and hills, view of the white mountains, blue rivers, etc. Overnight at Nepalgunj.
Early morning, we fly to Juphal and after lunch, we finally commence our walk to Raktang, where we'll see diverse flora and fauna, prayer flags, dense forest, etc. We conclude today's trek at Raktang. Overnight stay.
The trails make several ups & downs through the forests to reach Amchi Hospital for overnight stay.
The walk takes steep ascent for few hours and goes downhill trail in birch forests to the upper you will be in Ringmo village. We cross the bridge over a flowing river and follow a trail north to the ranger station at Phoksundo Lake. Spend overnight at Phoksundo Lake.
Day 7 gives you a different experience at Phoksundo compared to some of the more popular treks in Nepal. This trek is worthwhile if you would like to trek to the pristine environment and through a wild and rugged region and immerse yourself in Tibetan-Buddhist culture. Overnight stay.
We'll have early morning breakfast and follow the western side of Phoksundo Lake and through wooden stakes and rocks. The trail features the views of the stunningly blue lake and excellent mountains. We have to take a special permit to walk on the north of Phoksumdo Lake. Overnight at Phoksundo Lake.
After breakfast, we'll go north in a narrow valley crossing several streams. You need to climb over rocks and cross the stream that rushes down the steep incline of the valley and going to the top of the valley rewards you with a spectacular view of Kang La. Overnight stay.
The trail continues along the path to a large meadow to reach Kang La at 5440m elevation and you can see the entire valley from the top of the pass. After crossing Kang La, we continue towards Shey Gompa through a large meadow where hairy yaks and hundreds of sheep can be found grazing. Overnight at Shey Gompa.
This is the acclimatization at Shey Gompa and you can rest or you can explore around historical Shey Gompa. While exploring around Shey Gompa, you may encounter endangered species of animals like blue sheep. Overnight stay.
We come out of Shey Gompa and start our walk to head east up a narrow valley followed by a steep climb to cross Sela Bhanjyang. You can still have the spectacular views from the pass north into Tibet and east towards Mustang. We make the long descent to reach a small settlement at Namgung for overnight stay.
We leave Namgung early morning and follow an easy trail to reach Saldang. The first few hours are a gradual climb to the hilltop and then continue downhill to arrive at Saldang. We set camp just above ochre Saldang Gompa and spend overnight.
Free day at Saldang.
This is one more free day at Saldang where you can explore the place, enjoy high mountains and unspoiled part of the region. Overnight at the same camp.
After breakfast at our camp, we continue our walk and will cross another pass at 4,270m, Shimen La Pass from where the trail goes downhill. It is around 5-6 hours of walk to reach our destination Khoma Gaon for overnight stay.
The trail descends to the river and walks along the riverside. Then we climb to a top of a ridge which ends at a green valley of Shimen. We continue walking for a few hours, we reach Mendo where we fix our camp to stay tonight.
After having breakfast at the camp, we follow the river towards the south passing through numerous small villages, chortens and mani walls. We reach Tinje village which is one of the major points of the ancient Tibetan trade route. Overnight stay.
We start our day with lite breakfast and start walking to the south of the valley. The trail goes up and passes through the narrow valley before reaching the beautiful and wide valley of Rapka. Overnight stay.
We descend for the first one hour to the wide and icy river to get to the access valley for the Chharka La. We reach Chharka La at 5,030 where we get the best views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, which will follow us for a few more days. The trek continues towards Chharka for overnight stay.
After a long walk in previous days, we take much-needed rest at Chharka. You can also visit surrounding places of Chharka in your free day including Chharka Gompa, a school with a glimpse of mt. Dhaulagiri. Overnight stay.
We follow the same trail and go along the river and cross a suspension bridge to reach south of the valley. We keep walking south for most of the latter stages of the trek and the final climb takes you to Norbulung for overnight stay.
We again move to the higher elevation, cross few high passes which separates the Dolpo region from Kali Gandaki Valley. The Sangda La is one of the passes which is the border between the Dolpo Region and Kali Gandaki Valley. We end today's walk at the bottom of Sangda La.
The day is going to be hardest among previous days as we are going for two high passes today, Niwar Pass at 5,130m and Sangda La at 5,300m. The trail features the majestic views of the valleys and some of the most beautiful mountains. We take a long descent to reach Sangda for overnight stay.
As we head to more downhill towards Lower Sangda, majestic mountains of Kali Gandaki Valley start to appear near Lower Sangda where you'll see a huge number of Blue Sheeps. Overnight at Lower Sangda.
We walk on several ridges where you have to take several ascending and descending over the passes. Today, you can see magnificent snowcapped mountains of Mustang and Annapurna ranges. We conclude today's trek at Dhagarjun.
We start our day with a beautiful sunrise over white mountains and we'll enjoy the sublime views with a cup of coffee. Then we head towards Jomsom. The trail offers the beautiful views of Mount Nilgiri and mt Dhaulagiri. Overnight at Jomsom.
Today, we fly to Kathmandu from Jomsom. We'll explore around lakeside Pokhara and have lunch there and take a flight back to Kathmandu city. In the evening, we'll go to Thamel for shopping and enjoy the local street food. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
The final day of Jomsom to Juphal Trek. Our representatives will drop you to the airport on our private vehicle for your flight back to your native land.
